The gospel of Matthew reveals that Jesus was about two years of age when the wise men or magi visited Him. It is amazing all the information that Scripture gives us. In this case, the age of Christ is important since the information helps us understand the fulfillment of a prophecy in Jeremiah. Matthew 2:17 quotes Jeremiah 31:15.. Luke never speaks of wise men being present at Jesus' birth, and Matthew never says shepherds are in attendance when the wise men arrive. Unless Luke hates wise men and Matthew has some beef with shepherds, I think it's safe to say there's no reason they wouldn't have noted the additional characters.
